Your senior year of high school is the culmination of all the activities, studies, hobbies and family times that brought you to be who you are today. Senior year is also setting you on the path of your future. Senior portraits by a professional photographer capture this special time and the essence of who you are. How do you select the best professional photographer for you and your family?
For starters, pick a professional whose business is dedicated to providing full-service photography and products to clients. Check the database of the Professional Photographers of America to see if the studio is actively engaged in the business.
Check out the studio's portfolio. Its website and presence on social media should display a wide array of images that will show the quality, style and range of the photographer's work. See if the studio specializes in high school senior portraits. If so, then the photographer is experienced in working with teens and has an eye for making them look great. A key part of that is feeling comfortable and knowing your photographer gets and respects you.
Houston photographer Kat Mack specializes in families and children of all ages, and she understands the nuances of high school seniors, who are poised as young adults and on the verge of stepping out on their own.
Each high school senior is unique and what the senior wants might differ from what his or her parent wants from the photo series, Kat notes. She seeks to respect the point of view of senior and parent, and then strike the right balance for the best representation in the portraits. The client does not have to settle for just one look either. Kat Mack Photography portraits can be formal and/or casual, and taken in the studio or on location. Kat is interested in capturing different facets of a person. For example, a client can be photographed in formal clothes and also in sports gear.
See what the studio offers in terms of being prepared for the portraits and what kinds of products (albums, graduation announcements, videos, social media-ready files, wall art, etc.) the studio edits and prepares for clients. Does the photographer expect to meet with the parents and seniors beforehand to interview them about what they are looking for with the portraits?
Does the studio have recommendations on what to wear for the photo sessions? Does the studio have suggestions for where to shoot any outside sessions? Does the studio provide a clear schedule for the sessions and when the portraits will be ready? Is the pricing transparent and fair?
Be sure that all of your questions are answered ahead of time. This is such an important time in your life and you want to work a photographer who is dedicated to capturing the excitement of your achievements.
Finally, are you ready to have some fun? Your senior portraits should reflect how happy you are in reaching this milestone. Your photographer's work should celebrate that too.

Kat Mack - We feel the same way about Senior Portraits! It is vital to give the student a say in what we do for their session. Having the student involved in the decision making process helps them have ownership within the photo session. We like to make the "senior experience" unique to the individual.

Harper Campbell - My son is going to be graduating from high school next year, and we are wanting to get his senior pictures done. It's good to know that when it comes to choosing the right studio, one thing we need to look for is that they choose things that will help portray who he is. It will be amazing to have photos that show off his personality, and what he likes. http://www.ultimateexposures.com/seniors/
